LVMH and Alibaba Expand Partnership
by Yvonne Heinen-Foudeh, Senior International Correspondent
French LVMH Group and Alibaba Group have announced an expanded partnership to enhance the luxury shopping experience in China. The partnership leverages Alibaba's cloud technologies for AI-powered innovation in brick-and-mortar retail and Tmall's online business, both partners announced.
“Alibaba is already an important partner for our Maisons and the Group. Strengthening our partnership will help us accelerate the growth of our omnichannel business and better harness the transformative power of cloud and AI technologies,” says Stephane Bianchi, Group Managing Director at LVMH. And Eddie Wu, CEO of Alibaba Group, adds, “This comprehensive partnership has improved the shopping experience for LVMH customers worldwide.”
The partnership will enable LVMH to further expand its omni-channel, data, and technology presence in China. LVMH already integrates Alibaba's generative AI capabilities, including the Large Language Model Qwen and the AI modeling platform Model Studio (Bailian). Since the partnership began in 2019, LVMH has implemented Alibaba Cloud's data management tool Dataphin, and machine learning platform PAI to develop personalized services for Chinese consumers.
The integration of around 30 brands into the Tmall Luxury Pavilion has enabled interactive experiences such as 3D product presentations and live streaming. The collaboration will be extended for another five years, covering more than 30 maisons and departments in China and Southeast Asia. LVMH plans to access a wider range of Alibaba's technologies in the future to optimize its business in the Chinese market.
