by Yvonne Heinen-Foudeh, Senior International Correspondent
Milan at the end of September 2022 — The NEEDLE’S EYE Senior International Correspondent Yvonne Heinen-Foudeh personally observed that the Italian fashion metropolis with Milan Fashion Week once again offered the scenario for a great appearance of the legendary Italian traditional houses. Whether Fendi, Prada, or Versace, they all know how to reinvent themselves again and again. They are setting a course for the future, based on powerful brand potential and, unquestionably, their available capital. The Gucci brand, which belongs to the French-listed luxury products group (until 2013: PPR for Pinault-Printemps-Redoute), came up with a fashion spectacle of a very special kind at the fall shows this year.
Creative Director Alessandro Michele's Spring/Summer 2023 models were presented by 68 pairs of identical twins in artistic and creative styling. A bow also towards the provincial town of Twinsburg, Ohio (USA) with its 17,000 souls - holding a festival to feature twins every year in August.
The Community of Twinsburg, Ohio In 1818, a pair of identical twins named Moses and Aaron Wilcox from Killingworth, Connecticut (USA), purchased 4,000 acres of land in the northeast part of the state of Ohio (founded 1807, halfway between today’s Cleveland and Akron). The twin brothers began selling small parcels at low prices to attract other settlers. The Wilcox twins offered 6 acres of land for a public square and $20.00 toward starting the first school if the residents would change the settlement’s name from Millsville to Twinsburg.
Moses and Aaron Wilcox were reportedly so identical only their closest friends could tell them apart. They were lifelong business partners, held all their property in common, married sisters, had the same number of children, contracted the same fatal ailment, and died within hours of each other. They are buried in the same grave in Twinsburg’s Locust Grove Cemetery.
Opening with goosebumps quality, the spectacular catwalk presentation began with single models walking down the catwalk before a wall was lifted to show their twin brothers or sisters on the other side in the exact same outfits. The siblings held hands as they walked together in a striking finale.
The House of Gucci writing history is now practicing storytelling at its best with videos and images on “Gucci Twinsburg” via their social media channels.
Quoted in her own words, Alessandro Michele said: “Twinship is a topos that transcendent biology showing us the sense of co-belonging and sisterhood that should guide our trip through this planet.”
