Alpine Group Applies FibreTrace® to Track Fiber ID: Empowering consumers - Holding Brands Accountable
by Yvonne Heinen-Foudeh, Senior International Correspondent
The Swiss Alpine Group, a global textile innovation and apparel manufacturing group, and Singapore-based FibreTrace Solutions PTE LTD, a traceability solutions provider announced their partnership back in September 2023. Their declared goal is to deliver transparency throughout Alpine Group’s supply chain while engaging brands and accelerating positive change across the fashion industry.
According to the plan, by now FibreTrace’s technology is available with Paradise Textiles, the material science and innovation hub of the Alpine Group. FibreTrace® combines digital and physical technology to provide insight into the origin of textile fibers from raw fiber to production and further to the finished product. A patented luminescent pigment is embedded into the raw fiber, tracked and verified with scanners, and then deployed throughout the global supply chain.
All data is captured in a digital blockchain solution that effectively provides a digital passport for each product.
Every fiber (fibre) tells a story
“With our non-toxic, zero (negative) impact way to trace the verification of the textile and apparel industry’s physical products we together can accelerate access to responsible and traceable fibers through to the finished garments,” stressed FibreTrace CEO, Shannon Mercer.
With Alpine Group’s extensive manufacturing and innovation expertise, expert network, and resources, brands can now offer consumers the ability to track the garments by simply scanning a QR code on their phone – taking them on a journey from fiber to finished product that enables them to make informed purchasing decisions. FibreTrace’s technology applies to the Group’s curated Paradise collection of sustainable and performance fabrics, known as the Fuze Family, including its textile-to-textile recycling technology, GreenFuze Circle. “The partnership with FibreTrace benefits the brands we work with and empowers the end consumer with a transparent sustainability journey that they can hold brands accountable,” commented Ashok Mahtani, co-founder and chairman of Paradise Textiles.
SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance SA), Geneva, the world's leading testing, inspection, and certification company, has joined forces with FibreTrace®, to develop a new Fiber Integrity Protocol for the textile industry in August of last year. The partnership supports brands worldwide to boost industry and consumer confidence in product claims through the integration of robustly audited pathways with the cloud-based traceability technologies, FibreTrace® Mapped, and FibreTrace® Verified.
